In a 2009 study, researchers at the University of California at Davis found that beer is a rich course of dietary silicon, an important mineral for increasing bone density. The scientists tested 100 commercial beers for silicon content and concluded, “Beers containing high levels of malted barley and hops are richest in silicon.” Their findings suggest that moderate beer consumption may help prevent osteoporosis. Gotta love research.
(Interesting side note: Silicon is the eighth most common element in the universe by mass.)
