No, I’m not talking about another drinking establishment. The Barre Code is opening a studio in Dundee this December! There has been a lot of talk about barre studios over the past few years and we are finally getting one in midtown. There are several different bar classes, but the quick and dirty is that they use ballet inspired exercises to tone muscles, increase flexibility and improve core stabilization. As a physical therapist, there are several things that I like about bar classes. These classes help you build “functional strength.” Functional strength is building the muscles that we use everyday. Bar classes address the core muscles which are key players in the prevention and treatment of low back pain. The exercises can be modified to so that people of all fitness and skill levels can safely perform the exercises while still getting a good workout.
