A recent study by the BBC and University of Chester followed 10 subjects while they worked. They were instructed to stand for 3 hours everyday while working and were analyzed with accelerometer, heart rate monitors, and glucose monitors. They found that during the standing hours; 1)Glucose levels returned to normal much faster after eating than when sitting. 2)Average heart rate was about 10 beats more per minute which equates to about 50 calories per hour. Total that up, and it amounts to the rough caloric equivalent of running 10 marathons over the course of a year. The sample size is small, but you don’t need a study to tell you that standing vs sitting all day burns more calories. Just another example of how implementing small changes into your daily routine can help with your weight loss goals.
